The Marula
A king-suite suspended in the canopy of an ancient marula tree, eight metres above the dry riverbed at the southern edge of the reserve.
The story
The Marula was the first suite we ever built. We chose this particular tree because it was already a meeting place — for bushbuck at dusk, for baboons at dawn, and for the leopard who still treats the deck as part of her territory three nights a week.
The suite is a single open-plan room — bed, copper soaking tub, indoor and outdoor shower — wrapped in canvas and dark hardwood. A private deck wraps the eastern side, set up for breakfast in your robe and a long siesta with a book. There is no television. There is a record player and a small library of Bessie Head, Damon Galgut and Karen Blixen.
Hold this date for 24 hours — no card required.
